Moloka'i

Alan Brennert

In the lush landscape of Hawai'i over a century ago, a young girl named Rachel Kalama harbors dreams of adventure, inspired by her seafaring father. Her world is irrevocably altered when a mysterious mark appears on her skin, leading to her banishment to Kalaupapa, the isolated leprosy settlement on Moloka'i. Far from the life she knew, Rachel is thrust into a community of outcasts, where she must forge a new existence and discover her own resilience. This powerful novel explores themes of identity, belonging, and the enduring strength of the human spirit against overwhelming odds.
