Moses Trilogy

Samuel Selvon

In Samuel Selvon's "Moses Ascending," the titular protagonist, a Caribbean immigrant and landlord in Britain, embarks on writing his memoirs during his retirement. Through Moses's unique voice, the novel delves into the complexities of the immigrant experience, particularly the intersection of race and language for Black Britons. Selvon masterfully uses dialect and narrative to explore themes of identity, belonging, and the subtle yet pervasive nature of prejudice. This insightful and often humorous work offers a poignant look at post-colonial life and the challenges of assimilation.
