In pre–Civil War Michigan, Hester Wyatt—an escaped enslaved woman and devoted Underground Railroad conductor—risks everything to shelter a badly injured freedom fighter. Galen Vachon, known as the “Black Daniel,” is a courageous member of a prominent free Black family who has traded privilege for the dangerous work of guiding enslaved people toward liberty. As threats close in and betrayal shadows their mission, Hester and Galen must overcome their clashing wills while confronting the powerful attraction between them. Set against the perilous struggle for freedom, this historical romance explores courage, resistance, community, and the transformative power of love.
