Perveen Mistry

Sujata Massey

In 1920s Bombay, Perveen Mistry becomes India’s first female solicitor and is called to review the complicated will of a wealthy Muslim recluse whose three widows live in purdah on Malabar Hill. When troubling inconsistencies emerge—and violence threatens the household—Perveen must navigate a dangerous investigation in a society determined to limit women’s voices and independence. Set against the richly rendered worlds of colonial Bombay, Parsi tradition, and Islamic custom, this atmospheric historical mystery explores justice, prejudice, courage, and the struggle for women’s rights.
