The Seven Madmen

Roberto Arlt

Roberto Arlt's The Flamethrowers plunges readers into the turbulent inner world of Remo Erdosain, a man consumed by existential anxieties and drawn into the shadowy machinations of a secret society. As Erdosain grapples with his own turmoil, mirroring the profound psychological depths found in works like Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, he becomes entangled in the radical ambitions of the "seven madmen." This clandestine group endeavors to manifest their revolutionary vision, blurring the lines between dream and nightmare as they pursue a future devoid of conventional salvation. Arlt masterfully explores themes of societal unrest, personal salvation, and the desperate pursuit of radical change in this compelling narrative.
