When disgraced sportswriter R.J. Decker turns fledgling private investigator, a suspicious death draws him into the murky world of high-stakes bass fishing in the Florida backwaters. As he probes a tournament tainted by fraud, corruption, and dangerous ambition, Decker encounters an eccentric hermit, a volatile cast of locals, and threats that make his investigation increasingly personal. Blending sharp satire, dark humor, and hard-boiled suspense, the novel skewers the excesses of competitive sports, television evangelism, and Florida’s stranger-than-fiction culture while delivering a fast-moving mystery.
