A Spotlight dramabook

Wole Soyinka

Set against the pressures of war and political oppression, this sharp, darkly comic play follows a confrontation that spirals into a fierce argument over family, belief, and who gets to define reality. As accusations fly and power struggles surface, the drama exposes the absurd ways people justify cruelty, manipulate institutions, and weaponize “reason” to control others. Rooted in the Theatre of the Absurd yet unmistakably Soyinka in its moral urgency, the play turns private conflict into a public indictment of greed, hypocrisy, and the corrosive logic of authority. With its escalating dialogue and biting satire, it asks what sanity means when survival—and power—are on the line.
