Tales of My Landlord

Walter Scott

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of 17th-century Scotland, this novel plunges into the era of the Covenanters, a period marked by intense religious and political strife. The narrative follows a wandering narrator who encounters the titular Old Mortality, a stonemason dedicated to preserving the memory of martyred Covenanters by re-engraving their tombstone inscriptions. Through interwoven tales of love, loyalty, and conflict, the story explores themes of faith, historical memory, and the enduring impact of past struggles on the present.
