James Wilcox

In this witty and poignant novel set in small-town Louisiana, Bobby Pickens, the assistant manager of a bargain store, finds his quiet, morally ordered life disrupted when unexpected circumstances offer him a second chance at living. As this theoretically righteous man navigates the complexities of redemption and personal transformation, he discovers that new beginnings come with their own set of complications and regrets. Through sharp social observation and dark humor, James Wilcox explores the tension between religious conviction and human desire, between the life we think we should live and the one we actually want. The result is a compelling portrait of small-town America that examines how ordinary people grapple with meaning, morality, and the messy reality of change.
