The Unwanteds

Lisa McMann

In the rigid, unforgiving world of Quill, creativity is a death sentence. Every year, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the Wanted, the Needed, and the Unwanteds, with the latter group facing a grim fate. Identical twins Aaron and Alex are separated on their thirteenth birthday, one destined for the prestigious University, the other presumed Eliminated. However, Alex discovers a hidden sanctuary, a magical land where the so-called Unwanteds are not only accepted but celebrated for their unique talents. There, he and others like him begin to learn the true power of their creativity and forge a new destiny, challenging the very foundations of the society that cast them out.
