Yakata Series

Yukito Ayatsuji

A group of university mystery enthusiasts—each adopting the name of a famous detective—travel to an isolated island and take up residence in the eccentric Decagon House. When the killings begin, suspicion and fear spread through the dwindling group, while a parallel investigation unfolds on the mainland through mysterious letters linked to the island’s troubled past. Blending a classic locked-room atmosphere with an unusually expansive dual setting, the novel explores identity, deception, obsession, and the seductive logic of amateur detection. Cleverly constructed and steeped in the traditions of Golden Age mystery fiction, it offers a distinctly Japanese take on the isolated-murder puzzle.
