Arthur Schnitzler (1862–1931) was an Austrian author and dramatist, considered one of the most significant representatives of Viennese Modernism. His psychological dramas and narratives dissect bourgeois life in Vienna around 1900, and his Jewish upbringing and frank treatment of sexuality made several of his works controversial or banned. Among the books here are Dream Story, which follows a doctor through two unsettling days of desire, dream and fear in the city, and The Road to the Open.
