Emily Austin was born in St. Thomas, Ontario, and studied English literature, religious studies, and library science at Western University. Austin writes literary fiction, including Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead, a darkly funny novel about an anxious young receptionist at a Catholic church who gets pulled into a murder investigation. Her later novel We Could Be Rats also belongs to that shelf. Two writing grants from the Canada Council for the Arts have supported her work, and Austin now lives in Ottawa.
