Haruki Murakami is a Japanese writer, born in 1949, whose novels include Norwegian Wood, Kafka on the Shore, and 1Q84, along with the three-part Trilogy of the Rat that begins with Hear the Wind Sing. His work moves between science fiction, fantasy, crime, and magical realism, and his nonfiction includes Underground, an oral history of the Tokyo subway sarin attack, and What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, a memoir about long-distance running. He has also published several short story collections, including First Person Singular.
