South of the Border, West of the Sun
Description
Hajime, an only child in post-war Japan, finds solace and companionship in his childhood friend Shimamoto, sharing a love for music. Their paths diverge when Hajime's family moves, leaving him to navigate adulthood and eventually build a seemingly content life with his wife and daughters, running a jazz bar. However, the unexpected reappearance of Shimamoto, now a captivating and enigmatic woman, shatters his carefully constructed present. This reunion plunges Hajime into a profound exploration of memory, desire, and the enduring pull of the past, forcing him to confront the choices that have shaped his life and the potential cost of revisiting lost connections.
