Jeanette Winterson is an English author, born in 1959, whose first novel, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, is semi-autobiographical and follows a girl growing up in an English Pentecostal community. Her other novels explore gender and sexual identity, and her later ones the relations between humans and technology, with titles such as The Passion, a work of historical fiction, and Written on the Body, a romance. She has won a Whitbread Prize for a First Novel and a BAFTA Award, and she also broadcasts and teaches creative writing.
