John Banville is an Irish novelist, adapter of dramas and screenwriter, best known for the Revolutions Trilogy of Doctor Copernicus, Kepler and The Newton Letter, which are named after scientists. His novel The Sea won the Booker Prize in 2005, and his Frames Trilogy begins with The Book of Evidence. Under the name Benjamin Black he writes crime novels set in 1950s Dublin around the pathologist Quirke.
