Jose Maria Eca de Queiros's books are literary and historical fiction. Os Maias follows the Maia family of Lisbon across three generations, with Carlos da Maia and his circle at its center, and looks hard at the society around them. The Relic, also historical fiction, takes a coming-of-age shape.
