Martin Amis

Sir Martin Amis was an English novelist, essayist, memoirist, screenwriter and critic who died in 2023. He is best known for the novels Money (1984) and London Fields (1989), the second a darkly comic story set in late-1980s London about a woman who plans her own murder. His memoir Experience won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and Time's Arrow (1991) was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. Amis's satire of late capitalist Western society, with its grotesque caricatures and ironic detachment, shaped a generation of British writers.
