Description
In Martin Amis's darkly comic novel, John Self is a man consumed by his own appetites, a consumer extraordinaire navigating the high-stakes world of movie deals between London and New York. His life is a relentless pursuit of pleasure, fueled by alcohol, pills, pornography, and an insatiable hunger for more. Yet, this high-wire, hoggish lifestyle is under threat as a mysterious phone stalker begins to unravel the secrets behind his success. Amis masterfully crafts a portrait of excess and desperation, delivering a hilariously bleak exploration of modern desire and its inevitable consequences.
