Orhan Pamuk is a Turkish novelist, screenwriter and academic who won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first Turkish writer to receive it. Born in Istanbul in 1952, he is best known for novels such as My Name Is Red, The White Castle, Snow and The Museum of Innocence, and his books have sold over 13 million copies in 63 languages. He teaches writing and comparative literature at Columbia University, where he holds the Robert Yik-Fong Tam Professorship in the Humanities.
