Peter Handke is an Austrian novelist, playwright, poet and screenwriter who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019. He is known for novels such as The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick and The Left-Handed Woman, written in a deadpan, objective manner, and for the play Offending the Audience. His novella A Sorrow Beyond Dreams reflects on his mother's suicide in 1971, and he wrote screenplays for Wings of Desire. He received the Georg Büchner Prize in 1973.
