Ricardo Piglia (1941–2017) was an Argentine author, critic and scholar, best known for bringing hard-boiled fiction to Argentine readers. His novel Artificial Respiration follows a writer searching for a vanished uncle, and the search becomes a tangled inquiry into a nineteenth-century Argentine past. He also wrote Target in the Night, a mystery. Piglia was born in Adrogué in 1941 and died in Buenos Aires in 2017.
