Tahar Ben Jelloun is a Moroccan writer who rose to fame with L'Enfant de sable (The Sand Child), a 1985 novel. Although his first language is Darija, he writes in French, and he has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. His novels include The Sacred Night, Leaving Tangier, The Last Friend and This Blinding Absence of Light, and Racism Explained to My Daughter is a non-fiction book in which a father talks with his young daughter about prejudice and immigration.
