In this poignant novel, Tahar Ben Jelloun chronicles the intertwined yet diverging journeys of a Moroccan brother and sister seeking new beginnings in Spain. Azel, a young man from Tangier, harbors dreams of a different future, while his sister, Kenza, also embarks on a quest for reinvention across the Mediterranean. As they navigate the complexities of a new culture and forge separate paths in Barcelona, their lives become a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the profound challenges of assimilation. The narrative explores themes of identity, belonging, and the search for self in a world shaped by migration and cultural exchange.
