Tony Kushner is an American playwright and screenwriter best known for Angels in America, the two-part play that won him the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. Its parts, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, follow a cast caught up in the AIDS epidemic and in questions of faith and identity. He also wrote the lyrics and book for the musical Caroline, or Change, and at the turn of the century he began a run of film work with Steven Spielberg, including Munich and Lincoln.
