V. V. Ganeshananthan is an American fiction writer, essayist, and journalist whose work has appeared in Granta, The Atlantic Monthly, and The Washington Post. Her first novel, Love Marriage, is set in Sri Lanka and North America and was published in 2008. Her second, Brotherless Night, follows Sashi, a sixteen-year-old in Jaffna who wants to be a doctor as the Sri Lankan civil war reshapes her hometown; it won the 2024 Carol Shields Prize and the 2024 Women's Prize for Fiction.
