Description

When Yalini, the American-born daughter of Sri Lankan immigrants, travels to Toronto to help care for her dying uncle, she is drawn into the tangled history of a Tamil family shaped by migration, tradition, and civil war. As relatives gather and a politically charged marriage approaches, Yalini confronts the ways love, violence, and inherited loyalties continue to shape the present. Moving across generations and continents, the novel explores exile, cultural identity, family obligation, and the uncertain space between arranged and chosen love. Told in lyrical, inventive prose, it is a richly layered portrait of a family—and a nation—fractured and bound together by history.
