William Loren Katz was an American teacher and historian who wrote on African-American history, including a number of titles for young adult readers. Katz was particularly noted for research and writing on the 500-year history of relations between African Americans and Native Americans. Katz's books include Breaking the Chains, on African American slave resistance, The Black West, a documentary and pictorial history of the African American role in westward expansion, and Black Women of the Old West. Katz died in 2019.
