In a world where nursery rhyme characters live and work, Inspector Jack Spratt of the Nursery Crime Division faces his most baffling case yet: the murder of the notorious Humpty Dumpty. Found shattered beneath a wall, the ovoid celebrity's demise points to foul play, drawing Spratt and his new partner, Sergeant Mary Mary, into a dark investigation. As they delve into Humpty's sordid past, they uncover a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of society, blending high-stakes crime with Fforde's signature literate humor and imaginative world-building.
