Description

A writer of macho thrillers, Aaron Newman believes he understands fear and courage—until he witnesses a brutal murder and identifies the killer, a ruthless professional mobster. When threats against his family drive him to recant, Newman is left humiliated, haunted by guilt, and increasingly estranged from his wife, who demands that he reclaim his honor. Together with a trusted friend, he sets out to confront the murderer, pursuing him from the city into the remote Maine wilderness. Blending psychological tension, moral conflict, and stark survival suspense, the novel examines courage, revenge, marriage, and the perilous distance between imagining violence and committing it.
