Description

In 1920s New Orleans, privileged socialite Mirielle West’s carefully cultivated life is shattered when she is diagnosed with leprosy and sent to the isolated National Leprosarium in Carville, Louisiana. Separated from her family and stripped of her former identity, Mirielle must confront society’s fear and prejudice while building an unexpected community among fellow patients. Against the backdrop of a little-known chapter in American history, this immersive historical novel explores stigma, resilience, friendship, and the possibility of forging a new life after loss.

This is not my normal genre but was such a good book!
This woman’s strength and determination during her time of illness is inspiring! And her empathy for others was very touching.
