Description
In a world where goodness is a rare commodity, a compassionate prostitute named Shen Te struggles to survive and maintain her integrity. When gods descend to find a single virtuous soul, they bestow upon her the means to open a tobacco shop, a sanctuary in the impoverished Setzuan. However, her inherent kindness is exploited by those around her, forcing her to adopt a ruthless male alter-ego, Shui Ta, to protect her livelihood. This allegorical masterpiece by Bertolt Brecht masterfully explores the conflict between morality and survival in a capitalist society, questioning whether true goodness can exist when it is constantly under threat.
