Description

Set in the years just after World War II, this coming-of-age mystery follows eighth-grader Bobby Murphy as unsettling events at Center Junior High draw him into a world of secrets, violence, and adult corruption. As Bobby tries to understand what is happening around him, he must navigate schoolyard loyalties, social prejudice, and the complicated choices between fitting in and doing what is right. Blending a young narrator’s sharp observations with hard-edged noir atmosphere and crisp, entertaining dialogue, the novel explores adolescence, courage, and the uneasy transition from innocence to awareness.
