Description
In the heart of 1950s Harlem, a naive young man named Jackson finds himself entangled in a desperate get-rich-quick scheme, orchestrated by a woman with her own agenda. When the plan inevitably goes awry, Jackson is plunged into a dangerous world of ex-cons and escalating crimes, all while trying to retrieve stolen money and a hearse. Racing against time and the watchful eyes of Harlem's sharpest detectives, Coffin Ed Johnson and Grave Digger Jones, Jackson must navigate a treacherous landscape where desperation and deception collide. Chester Himes masterfully blends sharp wit, gritty realism, and a darkly comedic edge in this unforgettable introduction to his iconic Harlem detective duo.
