Description
Sent to the remote village of Kala after failing his exams, young Jean Medza is tasked with a peculiar mission: to retrieve a woman who has fled her husband. As he navigates the complexities of village life and confronts the traditions he left behind, Medza grapples with the clash between Western education and his African heritage. This satirical novel offers a sharp critique of colonialism and its impact on identity, set against the vibrant backdrop of a thriving Bantu culture. Mongo Beti masterfully blends humor and social commentary to explore the challenges of modernization and the enduring power of tradition.
