Description
In this evocative novel, Denton Welch plunges readers into the intensely solitary world of 15-year-old Orvil during a summer spent at a country hotel. Orvil navigates a landscape of burgeoning desires and detached fascination, observing his family and fellow guests with a voyeuristic eye that charts their eccentricities. Welch's precise and feeling prose captures Orvil's unique sensibility, a delicate balance of longing for connection and an inherent repulsion towards the world around him. As the shadow of boarding school looms, Orvil's summer becomes a poignant exploration of adolescent alienation, self-discovery, and the peculiar nature of human interaction, all rendered with a style that is both natural and profoundly unique.
