Description

In a future where mandatory surgery transforms everyone into a stunning "pretty" at sixteen, Tally eagerly awaits her own transformation into a world of effortless pleasure. However, her friend Shay's apprehension and subsequent escape reveal a darker reality beneath the glossy surface of this seemingly perfect society. Faced with an impossible choice between her own future and her friend's freedom, Tally must confront the true cost of beauty and conformity. This gripping novel explores themes of identity, societal pressure, and the courage it takes to question a world designed for superficial happiness.

honestly? fuck yeah. i wanted to read these sooo bad back in middle school and i know middle school me would have loved it. there’s a lot of moral stances being made here that as an adult you recognize as flawed or halfhearted. but as a kid even a half finished moral stance of “being pretty and popular isn’t worth it if they change who you are” is important. it’s the most baseline way to explain to kids to value who they are now and build self worth. so really fuck yeah. it was fun. also the secret biblical references made me laugh.
