Description
Set during the Korean War, this gripping historical novel brings the Battle of Chosin Reservoir to life through multiple perspectives, including that of Marine commander Oliver P. Smith. As American forces advance into North Korea under ambitious—and dangerously flawed—orders, they find themselves isolated in freezing mountain terrain and surrounded by a vastly larger Chinese force. Shaara vividly portrays the soldiers’ struggle to survive enemy attacks, treacherous conditions, frostbite, and exhaustion while fighting their way toward safety and one another. It is a powerful exploration of leadership, courage, sacrifice, and the human cost of war.
