Description
In post-revolutionary Tanzania, two young men, Karim and Badar, navigate the complexities of life and ambition at the turn of the twenty-first century. Karim, bright and charming, embarks on a path toward high government office, while also searching for the father he never knew. He crosses paths with Fauzia, a vibrant education student, and later takes in Badar when he is unjustly accused of theft, helping him find work. This novel explores themes of identity, belonging, and the consequences of ambition, all rendered in Gurnah's signature understated yet urgent prose.
