Onward: A Photobiography of African-American Polar Explorer Matthew Henson
Description
Through archival photographs and engaging narrative, this photobiography introduces Matthew Henson, an accomplished African American explorer whose determination carried him from a challenging childhood to the frozen reaches of the Arctic. It follows his years at sea, his partnership with Robert E. Peary, and the demanding expeditions that made him a key member of the effort to reach the North Pole. Along the way, the book explores courage, perseverance, racial barriers, and the often-overlooked contributions of Black Americans to exploration. Accessible and richly visual, it offers young readers an inspiring portrait of a pioneering figure whose achievements were recognized only gradually.
