Description
In a house sealed off from the world, a group of children are left to their own devices after their parents' sudden deaths. As they navigate their grief and isolation, they make a pact to keep their parents' bodies hidden, creating a macabre secret that binds them together. This unsettling narrative delves into the dark corners of childhood innocence corrupted by circumstance, exploring themes of survival, repression, and the disturbing ways families can construct their own realities. McEwan masterfully crafts a story that is both a chilling exploration of taboo and a profound examination of the resilience and fragility of the human psyche.
