Description

In the dying city of Nessus, Severian, an apprentice in the dreaded Torturers' Guild, finds his life irrevocably altered by a forbidden act of compassion. Exiled for showing mercy to a prisoner, he is sent to the distant city of Thrax, armed only with his memories and a mysterious claw. As he journeys through a decaying world, Severian grapples with his past, the nature of truth, and the very fabric of reality, encountering strange companions and facing perilous trials. Gene Wolfe masterfully weaves a tale of memory, identity, and the search for redemption in a universe both alien and hauntingly familiar.
