Description
In the oppressive heat of 1950s Jim Crow Florida, twelve-year-old Robbie Stephens, Jr. is sent to the Gracetown School for Boys, a reformatory that promises discipline but delivers unimaginable horrors. As Robbie navigates the brutal realities of racism and injustice within the reform school's segregated walls, he discovers that the institution harbors dark secrets far more terrifying than he could have ever conceived. Tananarive Due masterfully blends historical fiction with chilling supernatural elements, creating a powerful narrative that explores themes of survival, the enduring legacy of trauma, and the fight for one's soul against overwhelming darkness.
