Description
In an Austrian ski resort, a paper-mill manager’s private life becomes a brutal stage for the everyday mechanics of domination. Through his wife Gerti—trapped in a marriage defined by sexual coercion and humiliation—this novel exposes how desire can be weaponized and how power hides behind routine. Jelinek’s sharp, unsettling style turns the intimate into the political, interrogating the structures that allow exploitation to persist as “normal.” At its core, *Lust* is a searing study of gendered violence, complicity, and the ways language and culture can both mask and reveal oppression.
