Description

After nearly two decades in an emotionally painful marriage, Jane Jones takes her teenage daughter, Rebecca, and sets out across the country to begin again with family on a Massachusetts apple orchard. As they settle into their new surroundings, both mother and daughter form unexpected relationships, while Jane’s husband pursues them in hopes of restoring the family he has helped fracture. Moving between multiple perspectives, the novel explores marriage, infidelity, emotional abuse, parenthood, and the complicated bonds between mothers and daughters. Against the evocative backdrop of whale song and scientific discovery, it offers a poignant examination of communication, longing, and the difficult search for a life beyond old wounds.
