Description
In a future where humanity has conquered disease and extended life indefinitely, the world’s population is kept in balance by a secret order of “Scythes” who decide who must die. When a new apprentice is drawn into the Scythes’ code—part philosophy, part ritual, part necessity—he discovers that mercy and morality are never as simple as they seem. As the system’s ideals are tested by personal ambition and shifting loyalties, the story explores what it means to value life, who gets to define “the greater good,” and how power can hide behind compassion. Neal Shusterman blends fast-paced, thought-provoking storytelling with sharp ethical questions, creating a gripping, dystopian tale that challenges readers to rethink the cost of survival.

Dystopian Literature is not typically in my literary wheelhouse, but I have had Shusterman's Scythe on my bookshelf for over a year and wanted to give it a shot.

It is a huge understatement when I say that I was pleasantly entertained by this opening Arc of a Scythe novel! From the opening scene in Citra Terranova's house, to the last scene at the Winter Conclave, I was completely invested in these characters.

Maze Runner, Hunger Games, and now Scythe now all own a special place in this readers heart for amazing opening stories in a series of a dystopian world.

Now off to read Thunderhead and to find out the next step of this series!
