Our History Has Always Been Contraband: In Defense of Black Studies
by Colin Kaepernick (editor), Robin D.G. Kelley (editor)
Description
A powerful collection of essays defending Black Studies as an essential tradition of scholarship, resistance, and liberation, this volume confronts the ongoing suppression and distortion of Black history in classrooms and public life. Contributors examine the intellectual movements, cultural struggles, and political organizing that have shaped Black freedom movements, connecting historical scholarship to contemporary battles over education, racial justice, and democracy. Urgent, illuminating, and deeply engaged, the book argues that reclaiming the past is a vital act of resistance—and a foundation for imagining a more just future.
