António Lobo Antunes was a Portuguese novelist and medical doctor. Lobo Antunes's fiction includes Act of the Damned, which follows a wealthy family under suspicion during a socialist revolution, The Land at the End of the World, a war novel, and The Inquisitors' Manual, a work of historical fiction. Lobo Antunes was awarded the Austrian State Prize, the Ovid Prize, the Jerusalem Prize, the Camões Prize and the Juan Rulfo Prize, and was repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
