Billy-Ray Belcourt is a poet, scholar, and author from the Driftpile Cree Nation, best known for the poetry collection This Wound Is a World, which won the 2018 Griffin Poetry Prize. Belcourt's prose includes the essay collections A History of My Brief Body and NDN Coping Mechanisms, which return to grief, decolonial love, and intimacy. Belcourt was the 2016 Rhodes Scholar and teaches as an associate professor in the School of Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia.
